The transmission oil cooler, also known as the gearbox cooler, is a core thermal management component for automatic transmissions (AT, CVT, DCT). It functions as a core thermal management component by forcibly dissipating heat to reduce transmission fluid (ATF) temperature. This maintains fluid viscosity and lubrication properties, preventing transmission wear, gearshift jerkiness, or even burnout failures caused by overheating. It is a critical device ensuring the efficient, stable, and long-lasting operation of the transmission.
Key Installation Steps
1. Position Selection (External Mounting)
Install within the front bumper, forward of the condenser, ensuring adequate airflow during operation. Avoid interference with the fan or bumper.
2. Hose Connections
- Water-cooled: Connect in series to the engine cooling system's return line. Note the direction of the inlet and outlet ports (indicated by arrows); do not reverse connections.
- Air-cooled: Connect to the transmission's original oil lines via a three-way connector. Secure the lines firmly to prevent vibration-induced wear.
3. Fastening and Sealing
Apply oil-resistant sealant to all joints to prevent leakage. Allow sufficient movement allowance in hoses to prevent rupture from vehicle vibrations.
4. Air Bleed Test
After filling with transmission fluid, start the vehicle and engage each gear position. Idle for 5-10 minutes to expel air from the radiator. Re-check fluid level and inspect for leaks.
